LIPOMBO

Twine, fibers, foam, & found objects 2014 Created in response to the beauty custom of skull elongation, also known as Lipombo. This was seen as a status symbol among the Mangbetu ruling classes. It was later emulated by neighboring groups, evolved into a common ideal of beauty among the peoples of the northeastern Congo.
